An award winning multi user Flash site for the Agency I was Technical Director of at the time, Randommedia.
Built in Flash, visitors ‘evolved’ their unique ‘drone’ avatars and piloted them through an abstract landscape full of quirky animations themed around the Agencies main clients. Connected via a custom Java socket server users were able to interact with and leave messages for other visitors within the environment.
After seeing the initial site Macromedia contacted us to beta test their new Flash Communication Server, which allowed us to add real time text and video messaging between the visitors. The site became a launch showcase for the Communication Server and was the first site to publicly use it.
And interestingly, long before Chat Roulette, we were amongst the first to learn that given access to a webcam and an audience the general public will invariably either make beautiful spontaneous self organising art… or just flash their privates.
