Google typecasting

June 20th, 2006

Looking at the Google Zeitgeist is always interesting, if only to confirm all your national stereotypes, for instance in Feb. 2006…

  • In the UK we’re a buch of chavs obsessed with ‘the national lottery’, ‘eastenders’, ‘cheap flights’, ‘chantelle’ & ‘katie price’; although we did pull it back with ‘dictionary’ in a respectable 3rd place.
  • Brazil were rather obviously searching for ‘carnaval’ & ‘futebol’, but deserve a good pasting for ‘crazy frog’ at no.9
  • Candians were rather quaintly searching for ‘love’…ahhh
  • Indians were into ‘cricket’ & ‘Harry Potter’ but still rather worried about ‘tsunami’s & ‘bird flu’
  • Italians were reving up for Valentines day with ’san valentino’ at no.1 spot
  • Polish were looking for ‘maps of poland’ and ‘Chuck Norris’ videos….hmmmm scary!
  • Russians were doing rather well, with ‘holiday’, ‘auto insurance’, ’snowboard’, ‘real estate agency’, ‘corporate party’ and even ‘building of a sauna’ in there!
  • …while the South Africans are searching for a ‘job’ (when they’re not over here dossing!)

I’ve been working on a little plugin for MediaMonkey that, err… ‘pays homage’ to the nifty context panel in Amarok.

The code’s still pretty messy (VB, bleugh!) but functional enough. Thought I’d get it out there and see if anyone else finds it useful before I waste any more time on it :)

Comments are go!

June 7th, 2006

Thanks to Tink for pointing out that I had ‘must be registered to post comment’ turned on, thats obviously the reason that my hundreds of thousands of regular readers haven’t left many comments here (yeah right!) but that is now fixteded, so bring it on…!

I’m back!

April 1st, 2006

Yup, sad but true, I’m back in grey London and ready to get my head around my new life without a regular wage…eeek!

A big hello and thanks to everyone who put me up (and put up with me) in my few months around the world, and particularly to Guy, Tink, LordAlex, Matt, Moca & Geoff for all the fun on my unscheduled stop in Oz! It’s good to get out and find there are other cool people doing the same geeky stuff as you :)

blogging is tough work!

March 3rd, 2006

Ok, so I’ve not blogged anything on my travel blog, shame on me, but instead have been taking loads of photos. Check them out @ http://www.flickr.com/photos/46549372@N00/

I’m currently in Sydney, Australia, hanging out with Tink & Guy @ the WebDU conference. Bit of a culture shock after the beaches of Thailand, and (relatively) expensive too! And although it’s a lot nicer than back home still, it feels pretty cold here after Thailand!

And just to prove I have actually got a tan for once…Guy (FlashGuru), Me and Tink chillin’ in the sauna after a hard night on the beers…

Check out the tan!
