Android Market completely broken (again)?

So, for the last couple of days I’ve only been able to download apps from the market very occasionally, mostly the downloads quietly fail and today I’m getting nothing at all.

It appears it’s not just me, Androinica have dubbed it ‘The Market Blackout’ and the help forums are swamped with people all around the world with the same problems. Very bad!

As I posted on the forum, watching what’s going wrong via DDMS shows:

And testing the URI directly gives the same result, a 502 error, meaning something’s borked at Googles end. The worst thing is that the Market app doesn’t give any meaningful feedback, so downloads sit and appear to be downloading for ever but in fact have already died.

This is effecting me directly as I have a paid app for sale on the market and I’ve seen 1/3 of my orders yesterday cancelled, 2/3 the day before, far more than normal. Understandable when users can’t download the app they paid for!

To be honest as a global problem that’s obviously effecting lots of people I can’t understand why this hasn’t been picked up by the media more, it’s the kind of thing that iFanboys would jump on, and to be honest I think a bit of public shaming is required here as there seems to be very little response to this from Google and some threads on the support forum go back a year or more.

C’mon Google, get your act in gear!

  1. Generally one of the most talked about features of Android over iPhone is the ability to have multiple Markets, can’t you just upload your app to a different one? No word from Google about the outage?
